Happy 64th birthday to Dave Cash, shown here leaping over a sliding Boog Powell. Cash came up through the Pirates system and replaced Hall of Famer Bill Mazeroski at second base. In 1970, Dave broke the taboo of talking about a no-hitter while one is taking place. His rookie mistake during Dock’s historical game had no ill effects, and the two of them ended up popularizing the term “no-no” for no-hitter.
Dave Cash graciously took the time to talk to us on camera about Dock and the June 12, 1970 no-hitter. We will have more to share tomorrow on the anniversary of the game.
